Week 4: God Makes Us The Light of The World

What a bright and amazing day to know about God and his creation and what does it mean today. Say hi and give a high five with your elbowto your friends and say “I want to be light like you God”…

Creation: Day 4 – Sun, Moon & Stars
In the very beginning of time, God created day and night. Genesis 1:14-19 says, “Then God said, ‘Let great lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. let them mark off the seasons, days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth.’ And that is what happened. God made two great lights, the sun and the moon—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And evening passed and morning came, marking the fourth day.” On the fourth day of creation, God created the sun, moon and stars to light
the world. Just as the sun, moon and stars light the world—God wants us to be light in the world too. We live in a dark world because there are so many people who don’t know Jesus. It’s our mission to be a light so people can see Jesus living in us.

Satan has “blinded the minds of those who don’t believe.” He is called the Prince of Darkness and we are called to be the light of the world. The cool thing is that light always overcomes darkness. Jesus says we cannot be hidden. When Jesus is truly living in us people will take notice.

Jesus said in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness…” Since Jesus isn’t on earth anymore to lead people, He told us in our key verse that we’re now the light of the
world. That means that we need to do our best to lead people to Jesus so that they don’t have to walk in darkness. You see, people walking in darkness don’t have Jesus as a Friend yet. They haven’t asked Jesus into their life yet. This means they don’t know to go to when they’re in trouble or who to look to when they don’t know what to do. This is why it’s our job to be light; so when they see us we can lead them to ultimate light—King Jesus!

Life Application

•Why do you think Satan wants to blind people’s minds?
The Bible states that Satan is a liar and a deceiver. There’s no way he wants us to live for eternity with Jesus. He’s trying to deceive/trick as many people as possible.

•What are some things that kids your age stumble upon?
Give them an example of something that you struggled with, but have now overcome to give them an idea. Keep your example as something that will relate to children.

•What are some things that you can do to be the light to someone who is living in darkness?
There are numerous answers. Here are some examples: Be quick to forgive someone when they hurt you. Be friends and play with others who people ignore. Always do your best to say nice things. Always be truthful. Be a help at home and at school expecting nothing in return.

Bible Verse

“Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.” Colossians 3:10, NLT

The Point

God created the sun, moon, and stars on the fourth day of Creation — and saw that it was good. We are all called to be a light for Jesus. God is the ultimate light who said that if we follow Him we don’t have to walk in darkness anymore because we will have the light that leads to life!
